Saint Laurent Bought a Private Collection of 4 Thousand YSL Vintage Pieces

Saint Laurent and brand's Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello have acquired Olivier Chatenay's full vintage YSL collection. It contains 4,000 pieces, dated from 1966 to 1985. Among them are Saint Laurent Rive Gauche ready-to-wear clothes, coats, dresses, suits, blouses, knitwear, bags, shoes, jewelry, scarves. Among the ensembles are individual couture outfits, for example, a Spring 1967 beaded dress from the African-style collection, previously owned by the Duchess of Windsor. All items will go into the existing Saint Laurent archive located at the brand's headquarter on Rue de Bellechasse in Paris. The purchase amount was not disclosed. “Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent has created an extremely valuable legacy that is an endless source of inspiration,” Vaccarello said in a statement. The Kering brand also actively supports the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Paris, which has a separate archive of 5,000 garments, 15,000 accessories and several thousands of sketches. Anthony Vaccarello himself recently curated his first exhibition there, dedicated to the YSL muse Betty Catroux.
