Rex Lee Qi Reigniting Japanese Art in His Shoe Design

Ikebana is an ancient art where zen and the art of balance is showcased through the flower arrangement.



I wanted to capture the daintiness and whimsical aspect of the art, in which I tried out different materials to better translate the idea.

Through different experimentations on consistency within time constraint, I realized that the yellow glue often used in shoe-making is a perfect choice to express.



Shaping the copper wires into desired shape and placing them together, Rex finally found the balance of the proportion.

Rex is currently a Leather Technology ( Bags & Footwear Design ) student at Polimoda. His strength and focus is on design and concept development. Craft is a non-verbal statement for Rex, whereby it brings a sense of encouragement in the everyday life. Rex is constantly challenging his own train of thoughts in seek of a balance in the craft-works.
