Palais Galliera Opens an Exhibition Dedicated to Gabriel Chanel

The Paris Fashion Museum Palais Galliera will open a retrospective “Gabrielle Chanel, Manifeste de mode". This is the first exhibition in the Palais Galliera after the reconstruction, which, in particular, was sponsored by Chanel. There you can see more than 350 exhibits that date back to the years 1910-1970: for example, items from the archives of the Palais Galliera, the London Victoria and Albert Museum and the de Young Museum in San Francisco. The director of the Palais Galliera, Miren Arzalluz and Véronique Belloir, will act as curators, and Olivier Saillard, a fashion historian and former head of the Paris Fashion Museum, will be responsible for the design.

The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first allows you to trace the evolution of Gabriel Chanel: from the first straw hats, from the creation of which Chanel began her career, to the outfits of the 1930s. Other exhibits include the 1916 knitted blouse, which marked the beginning of the resort wardrobe concept, and the first Chanel No. 5 fragrance bottles. The second part is devoted to several topics: tweed suit, two-tone pumps, quilted 2.55 bag and jewelry. The exhibition opens on October 1 and runs till March 14, 2021.

According to WWD, the Paris Fashion Museum also plans to organize an exhibition dedicated to the history of the French Vogue, which turns 100 this year.
