Nowadays it is not possible to make great geographical movements, due to the Pandemic, but at least Art allows us to travel through time, with the help of finds and historical documents that reach again our contemporary eyes. Here is the magic of Art: bringing together our origins, customs, and traditions in the name of Culture, to give a better look at today through the past. From 15 October to 2 May, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs of Paris presents "Luxes", an exhibition that investigates the concept of Luxury through the centuries and the societies that lived those times, through a careful selection of over 100 works of international scope. "Luxes" highlights aspects related to luxury that we have almost forgotten, such as the luxury of time, represented by Marc Newson's hourglass, the supreme object that symbolizes precisely the preciousness of time, but also ranges between other concepts that they marked its genealogy, including the Egyptian makeup spoon or the insignia of the Treasury of Boscoreale. Contemporaneity nowadays associates a concept of luxury that is profoundly and almost exclusively commodity-related, defined by the massive presence of brands in our daily life or by words related to consumption, with a view to globalization. History, on the other hand, teaches us other synonyms and the exhibition intends to bring to light these details, which risked getting lost in the folds of time. The exhibition also offers the opportunity to discover two emblematic places, usually closed to visitors: the 1900 salon, which witnessed the Universal Exhibition in Paris, commissioned by the museum to celebrate Art Nouveau and French decorative arts, and the Salone des Boiseries, bringing masterpieces to the eyes of visitors such as the incredible Venini chandelier exhibited in Paris in 1925.
